Week 40: Brevard, NC - Rockwood, TN

September 4, 2023

Today was wild, Elder Steiner and I decided to get up at 6:30 and go straight to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Brother Simpson told us about the morning fog that settles in the morning and it was beautiful. It was super fun chilling on the parkway eating McGriddles. After we got back, we went up to the Hendersonville Apple Festival, which was alright. There was so many people there and everything they sold was way expensive. It was fun anyways rollin' up with the squad though. For dinner we ate at this crazy good Mexican place. 

September 5, 2023

We had three good lesson today, which if you know Brevard, that's psycho. First one is Shirley, I'm pretty sure I left there with a sore throat. Second was Bruce, and he pretty much talked about atomic bombs the whole time, and then we actually had a good lesson with Lauri. We asked her if she had any paper we could draw on and she pulled out a stack and some colored pencils. We taught the Plan of Salvation and Elder Steiner drew out the whole thing for her. She absolutely loved the whole thing. She loved, "Adam fell that men might be, and men are that they might have joy" and how we related Adam and Eve to learning and progression in life. She loved the Spirit World and three kingdoms. All of it was new to her, but she said she really liked it. After the lesson, we went and helped this lady, and then Fuji Yamas. We said goodbye to Sister Payne and our boy Wi that works there.  :'-(

September 6, 2023

Today was sick. We had our last District Council and then we helped the Greene's with some service. We had a really good lesson with Matthew and talked about prophets and the power they bring and guidance they give. For dinner we went over to the best members, the Miller's. Also I got the news that I'm leaving Brevard and going to Rockwood, Tennessee. I'm kind of sad, but also it's about time haha. 

September 7, 2023

We went and said goodbye to a bunch of people today. We said bye to Bruce, had a really good talk with Brady and the Cleveland's, and then had dinner with the Miller's at the Harts'. I'm going to miss the branch a lot, but it's time to get going somewhere new. 

September 8, 2023

Ya boy made it to Rockwood. I'm with Elder Buck, my new companion, who is from Logan, and he's a funny fella. Harry took us to MeMe's right in town and I pounded four of these chicken sandwich things. Harry is a member who was only baptized a couple years ago, but he always drives missionaries around and is an absolute g. After he drove us around for a minute we had game night and played some cards. 

September 9, 2023

We started it off with a useless Zone call aint no one wanted. It was fun though and after we went and gave a member a blessing because he's been sick. We talked to Brother Byer for a minute. He used to be a Baptist preacher, so he's a little zesty.  Harry drove us around all day pretty much visiting all of our contacts that are out here. Talked to another cracked out member Marshall Patterson. Harry took us to China New Buffet, which was sickkk because we literally had no food in the apartment. 

September 10, 2023

Today was wackkk. Nah, it was good but the ward here in Rockwood is actually a normal ward with a bunch of people, so it fried my brain. Probably like 30 minutes before sacrament our Bishop pulled up and was like "Hey Elder Huff, can you speak in sacrament? And then I spent the next 30 minutes talking to members, but it was ight. Rockwood got some strange members, but that's what makes it fun. After church, we went out with Harry and took sacrament to a couple members. We did a couple other things through the night and then we pulled up to K25 and drove around. Pretty sketch but it's mad cool.
