Week 37: Brevard, NC

August 14, 2023

Today was a sick p-day. We pulled up to Tokyo Toybox for a minute and looked at all the nerdy Pokemon and anime stuff. It was pretty sweet. Our p-day switches back to the 6-9pm schedule, R.I.P. So we went and talked with a couple people in Brevard. There's this black neighborhood on the southwest side of Brevard that's kind of ghetto, so we pulled up and talked to a few people. This one guy, Coach Greg from the Junior High football team, wanted us to come pray with his team because the preacher that used to do it stopped, haha.

Today was super fun. We went and weed-wacked the Miller's yard for a few hours. Alyssa bought a brand new weed-wacker and they had some other janky one, so Elder Steiner and I just went crazy. It was way fun being able to go do some slave work for a minute. After that we stopped by a house that was supposed to be a referral but was actually this sweet lady Laurie and then she lead us to the real referral. The real referral was two white bozos that bashed us for a minute and then I tried sharing a scripture and they slammed that. After that, we went and had a lesson with a sweet old lady, Wanda. We pretty much taught her for an hour, answering questions and whatever and then she read like 6 scriptures from Romans and said she wasn't interested. Finished it off with Fuji Yamas so that's it.

Met this sweet old lady named Lois Hendrix in some backwoods trailer park. Real nice, just wanted to talk. We taught Bruce with Brother Ostler, which went really well. We focused on teaching the gospel with Mosiah 18 to emphasize baptism, and Bro Ostler was able to connect with him well. After that we drove up to the Jones' for dinner and Sister Jones talked about some more wack stuff.

We pulled up to Zone Conference today. The whole time they were emphasizing finding and having the faith to find. It was sick, the food was heat and a couple of members from Brevard were there, so we just talked to them the whole time. After ZC we helped the AP's vacuum all the floors. They thought we were just stalling so we didn't have to go back. It was a hot day, and the rest of the day wasn't too special. We did have a fun dinner with the Miller's.

We had pan de vida today. After that Sister Cope faded us up. Nah, no fades, but she has a salon in Brevard and gave us free haircuts. The salon is for old ladies, so when we walked in, there were some sweet old grannies to talk to. I don't know, the rest of the day was pretty slow, bunch of missed contacts and District Leader calls. At the end though was an absolute dumpy. The Cleveland's had us come over and take a bunch of food that they probably picked up from a Baptist church food party or something. Yeah, pretty much all the food was wretched and they gave us a big bag of unrefrigerated meat patties. Pretty hype.

We read JSH 68-74 with our homie Bruce to help him understand the Priesthood a little better and it helped, but he's still not comprehending the importance or necessity. After we were done, we went off the rails on some random stories. Fun lesson though. Matthew has been low-key dodging us. We drove by his house and saw he was home from North Dakota, but isn't responding to texts. Met this cool lady, Shirley. Told us a couple of drug addicts to not go to. We bought Sister Harris some flowers because she's an angel and she gave us dinner tonight.

Elder Steiner and I both gave General Conference level talks in church. After church we took the Sacrament to Sister Powers and then went and had a meal with the Briggs'. Brother Briggs is from the UK, so he's got this accent you don't hear everyday out here. He used to be a butcher, so we had ribs for dinner. Later in the evening we whipped over to the Miller's, and Leland and Roy are back from Ohio, so it was the whole squad.
