Week 36: Brevard, NC

August 7, 2023

We hit up McD's for breakfast which was the first time I've had it since the airport. We went to a pinball museum in Hendersonville, which was actually pretty sick, not gonna lie. After that we hung out with the elders a bit and that pretty much finished the day.

We had district council today and then Elder Steiner did the baptismal interview for Fabian. He's a super cool dude from Colombia who was a media referral to the Zone Leaders. Yeah after that the day was mid.

We had a super sweet lesson with Bruce, with President Booth there. We read 2 Nephi 31 with him and he recognized the truth and the Spirit. He told us it inspires him and that it gives him peace and comfort. Our boy Bruce broke into tears and told us that his heart is torn because of the things people around him are telling him. He said one side is saying that his brother is going to hell because he was never baptized, and one side tells him that his brother doesn't need baptism. So we testified of the truth and Bruce was feeling the importance of it. President Booth is very bold, which is kind of scary because he could throw the lesson, but he didn't and was a huge help. It was super great. That's about it though. Just a bunch of finding after that.

We had interviews with President Barlow, which was fun. Sister Barlow wasn't there sadly because her interview is low-key better. But nah it went really well. After that we met these two sick hispanic homies in the trailer park, Franklin and Ramon. They were super chill and instantly let us in and offered us some chicken. Elder Steiner talked to them for a good minute and pretty much all I said was 'Mi nombre Elder Huff' and 'Mi espanol es mal'. As we were leaving bro Ramon said in super broken English 'You are welcome here." Absolute giga chads just chillin' in their white wife beaters and New York Yankees hats playing PS5 and eating chicken. Later we had dinner with Alyssa.

Temple trip babbbyyyy!!!!  Ayyy it was such a sweet day. So first off, we rode up with the Hart's and Alyssa. The Hart's rented an absolute tank Wagoner for the trip because they wanted to ride in comfort. So we pulled up to the Atlanta Georgia Temple after a few hours drive through South Carolina, right next to Clemson and then through some mean Georgia traffic.

The temple was amazing. We had quite a few members from our branch there to support Alyssa, so that made it way sweet! We did Baptisms for the Dead and I baptized Alyssa for her mom and two grandma's.  The Spirit at the temple was so sweet and it was such a special experience. Alyssa loved it and loved everyone there. One of the temple workers was this lit black homie who was like 6'8". Everyone that was a part of it was so awesome and kind to Alyssa and the love was flowing like a river. After the long drive home, we exchanged with Hendersonville.

I'm so grateful for the opportunity and blessing it was to go to the temple with Alyssa and the branch. It was the highlight of my mission and helped me see how much the Gospel truly can bring joy and light to someone's life.

We talked to a couple of our homies today in Rosman. Had a lesson with Bruce and he's up to Alma 51, which is crazy. All the people around him, including his pastor, have been telling him to stop meeting with us, stop reading the Book of Mormon and all that stuff, but he said he pretty much tells them to leave him alone because they don't know what they are talking about. We taught him a lot about the Priesthood authority required for baptisms for the dead and everything else in the church. It went well but he definitely didn't comprehend everything.

Later we helped Alyssa with some service at her house, which was fun, and then Hendersonville had a baptism for this guy Fabian, so we pulled up.

We had church today, which went well. Because Elder Steiner is the District Leader, we always have a bunch of calls, which fills some time. We talked to Ashley's husband David for a minute. He's a cool dude but always busy, and has his own weird belief system. He's Adam Week's brother, which is kind of cool I guess. Adam is just some random homie we used to teach. That's pretty much it for today.
