Week 33: Brevard, NC

July 17, 2023

We had a super fun p-day today. Kicked it off with some service helping the Wilcox's move out of the Jones' house. Good time, and then after that, the Jones' took us to lunch at Taquera Mexican in Etawah. You already know ya boy got the burrito con queso. Sister Jones is super smart. She's like a naturalist psychologist sort of thing, so she told us all this each stuff about ourselves that we knew, but not really. It was nuts. 

Eventually we went up to Asheville with the district to play mini golf. I don't know I think I might've got the lowest score, I'm pretty garbage at the garbage sport. The Micronesians had the softball finals game. It was them versus some garbage pweche pwech white team. The first game they got smoked, but the last one they clutched up and won. Baseball is actually way fun and all the Micronesians are way good at it. 

July 18, 2023

We had district council today, highlights, probably like none of it, but Wendy's after, which was dope. We met a couple of cool people today and had a good lesson with Matthew. First off though was this absolutely cracked out homie, Ash. We were walking through this neighborhood and saw this bro chillin' in a default hammock chair in his garage, so we pulled up to talk with him. He was smoking some ciggys and drinking beer in the garage. So we pulled up and started talking. After a while it started monsoon-ing outside so the bro closed the garage door trapping us in. Elder Steiner and I were kind just like, "nah bruh." The garage had no ventilation so we were just cooking up in bros cheap cigarette smoke, while he was talking to us about his war experience. Eventually he let us go free, but it was kinda wack. 

So we had a really good lesson with our guy Matthew tonight. We talked about the structure and organization of Jesus Christ's church in the New Testament and then how our church today is literally the same thing. He really warmed up to us and appreciated the conversation. He also went a lil crazy on his banjo for us. 

July 19, 2023

We had a lesson with good ol' Bruce today and talked a little more about the Plan of Salvation. He focused in on how no other church teaches that and it hit him. We also read the entire Family Proclamation with him and expressed the importance of his family. Good stuff, and then on our way out of Rosman we stopped at this gas station and met this lady Priscilla. She was super cool and such a sweet lady, but she'd been having some tough stuff going on in her life. it was a blessing to be able to talk with her because she had it in the trenches. The rest of the day we helped Alyssa clean her house in Rosman and then we had missionary coordination. 

July 20, 2023

So good old Elder Greenhalgh and I went on an exchange in Brevard and did some fun stuff. Pretty much did finding all day, talked to some bozos and some nicer people, but no one was interested. We pulled up to Brad and Diane's just because we had nothing else and talked with Brad for a while. Some ways in he turned on some tent revival praise music that he listens to, which was lit. Those people were definitely "feeling the spirit." There is a difference between the Spirit and adrenaline haha. 

Finished it off right with a dinner with the Miller's. Something I love about Elder Greenhalgh is he never hesitates to share his testimony to contacts, never hesitates to jump up and help, and he works with urgency. I started off the mission good, but I feel like I've kind of turned into a bit of a gray blob, so he woke me up. Good day all around.  

July 21, 2023

Today was just a service day. We went to Bread of Life and then we helped Sister Greene with her garden. We planted around 60-70 plants, which was dope. After that we went looking for hispanics in this trailer park and found a couple amigos. This one family had like nine chickens in their house. Sister Harris, the saint, made us a crazy good dinner tonight too. Just another night in Brevard. 

July 22, 2023

We talked to this lady Juanita that we met a while back, and had an interesting conversation with her. It started off good and then 20 minutes later she was like, "oh wait, you guys are Mormons?" Bruh. Then she visibly lost interest. Haters gonna hate. 

Later we had a good lesson with Bruce, talked about the gospel and authority, but Bruce lacked full understanding, so we'll have to brush up on it. Brady has been acting wack recently. He's been having a faith crisis or something, so we talked to him for a minute. After that we finished off Rosman by knocking that ghetto triple stacked trailer park and some other stuff. 

July 23, 2023

Church went really well, we had a ton of people there, but no friends. After church we went over to the Miller's for lunch and played Clash Royale on Roy's tablet, which was dope. 

Then Brother Simpson called us because he wanted us to help give his wife a blessing, so we pulled up. They live about 30 minutes away, so it pretty much took up the rest of the day, but it was fun. They live on the border of South Carolina. Brother Simpson made us some mad pork chops, beans, toast, and other stuff. Sister Simpson has been in rough condition for about a year now, so it was a sweet experience to give her a blessing.
