Week 29: Brevard, NC

June 19, 2023

We had District Council with our new district, which went really well. After that we pulled up to Eric Maciel's and bro was like "Yeah, we're just going to stick to the Bible and head a different direction with religion." Bruh. That takes us from four green dots to two haha.

We went finding in a few trailer parks. This one white lady went crazy saying she was Baptist and doesn't want to talk, when all we wanted to ask is if she had any hispanic neighbors. Another lady put both of her hands up in the air and kept yelling "GO AWAY!" We didn't even say anything, we just walked away. Later we talked to these super nice Methodist people Brad and Diane. We concluded that we have lots of similarities, except they said they baptize by sprinkling.

We did our shopping today because we have P-day tomorrow, and we gotta drive like 4 1/2 hours to and from Tennessee. Kinda funny we saw the Miller's at Walmart.

P-day was really fun and really long. We drove up to Greenville for this lil' farewell devotional for the Graham's, the Nielson's, and the William's. Those were some top dawg Senior missionaries and it's crazy to see the Graham's go. After the devotional we ate some comida and played some baloncesta too. We drove with Arden so that was pretty ight. After the whole thang we had a bunch of miles so we drove to this overlook called Cherry Cove or something, but there was some mad fog, so we didn't see much. It was still lit though. Das about it.

Started it off knocking on some trailer parks looking for some people to talk to. We talked to a couple, nothing crazy though. We went over to Sister Jones' again and talked about her Shih Tzus for a good minute.

Then we went to this other trailer park in Rosman with probably 75% Hispanic people and knocked on a couple but there was this one that was absolute nuts. We knocked on this trailer and this hispanic guy answers. He instantly invited us in and there was probably like eight or nine Mexican dudes in there just eating some food and watching bull riding on this little TV. It was the funniest thing, Elder Steiner taught them about the Book of Mormon in Spanish for a minute. I don't know anything about what he was saying the whole time, but it was fun. We might just turn this area into a Spanish area because they're actually willing to talk to us. For the rest of the day we just hit a couple houses, not much.

Today was pretty cool. At some point we were headed up to Etowah and this FAT accident happened up yonder the road, so we were stopped for about an hour and a half. I think we counted two fire trucks, four ambulances, six or seven cop cars, and like two undercover cops, it was wild. We saw probably four or five cars towed away absolutely smashed to the moon. We eventually got out, hit our two contacts, and drove all the way back to Brevard because we ran out of time. We had a good lesson with Eric Fisher, and a good meal with the Miller's.

June 23, 2023

We had Bread of Life in the morning. Then we knocked on some Hispanic people's doors and then we knocked on some old grumpy folk's doors, pretty normal. Later the Hart's had us and the Miller's over for dinner. Sister Hart made some MEAN Mexicano food that was supa good. We taught the Gospel and lit off one of Brother Hart's smoke grenades, pretty fun. The Miller's dog Mesha ate like five brownies so hopefully she doesn't die.

We had a Zone call today, Zone calls are prettyy uselesss not gonna lie. We had this introduction question where we say our name, where we are from, and our favorite temple. I said Payson Temple, but I should've said the Old Testament Tabernacle, cause it wouldn've been funnier. Yeah I just thought it was kinda funny.

After the call we whipped up to the Causey's, who are these members in Mills River. They took us to lunch at this lil diner, which was hype. I got fried catfish, fried okra, mash tatos and cornbread. The ol southern thang. We went back to the Causey's and they were like, "We just got an Alexa, tell it to play any song." So I was like, "Alexa, play Hysteria..." Not gonna lie, that was the best moment of my mission easy. Elder Steiner and I have talked about that song for a solid week and we finally got to listen to it.

After that, Sister Greene called us and was like, "It's an emergency, I need to plant my garden before the storm comes." So we went all the way home from Mills river to get changed, then we planted a bunch of stuff with my boy Kenny. There was literally no storm anywhere, which was cool because it messed up our whole schedule for the day.

June 25, 2023

We had a really good sacrament meeting. For some reason we had about 40-45 people which was almost double the usual. Just a bunch of travelers from Utah coming to camp. We helped teach Priesthood and Brother Onderdonk was saying some wack stuff. He was talking about preparing for a future war with China and we were just like bruh, this is not what these kids need to hear, so we kind of highjacked the lesson. Later we hit a couple of contacts and had a really good dinner with the Cope's.
