Week 26: Brevard, NC
May 29, 2023
P-day was so sick today. we drove up to Hendersonville and stayed up there for the most part of the day. We wanted to hit up this guitar shop there because the guy who owns the one in Brevard aint too kind. Turns out that guitar shop was closed for Memorial Day or whatever, but there was this homeless bro chillin outside playing guitar for money. We walked up to the legend Johnny B and talked to him for a sec and he was like, you play!?!? And I said yes, so he let me jam out for a minute, which was wild.
After a while we met Hendo, Andy, and the Forest City elders at this members' house to go fishing. They have this huge pond in their backyard and a dock looking thing to fish off of. I pulled me in a nice little bluegill or something only using a hook and worms with no weights. You just really got to put your back into it and chuck that thing. It was so much fun though, they cooked all of this amazing food for us and we had a good time. Pro fisherman locked in that sucker lil blue gill boy.

We had planned to ball up tonight with Brady and one of his friends Cameron, but they canceled like 20 minutes before, which put a nice three hour hole in our day. It was pretty depressing because we just went and did finding for like three hours, but we survived. I can't remember if we found anyone to teach, it's been a few days.

There was this cool bro we talked to named Bryan. We knocked on his door and he told us to come back in an hour, so we went to la bibliotheca. He was actually there when we came back and wanted to read the Book of Mormon. We called good ol Billy Hatcher and had a fun time talking with him, he's a super nice guy and loves the gospel and the church but has had a crazy tough life. We're starting to lighten President Booth's moods at district council haha. He's usually pretty straight forward and particular with how everything goes, but lately he's been pretty chill.

So we went and helped Ricky Visperas and his family move out of their apartment. They are Filipino members in our branch so we and Brother Hart helped them out for a couple of hours. They had this one friend there named Gerry. He's this other Filipino guy who was absolutely dripped out in the 70's Chinese man fit and he was bumping to super old pop music the whole time. He was pretty much Mr. Miyagi, but a little younger. If you think southern hospitality is a thing you've never been in a Filipino's house because Ricky goes crazy crazy.
Then we pulled up to Buck's again and had another great talk with him. For dinner went to the Hart's with the Miller's and had pizza and then taught them about the Restoration again. We need to get in those new member lessons, baby.

YESSIRR I got to have the island experience today. I went on an exchange with Elder McClellan to Arden, the Micronesian area, and it was soo sickk. First off they have a super nice apartment and Elder Greenhalgh's mom dropped a care package so I looted up a ton of his food. Next, the Polynesians don't wake up until 2pm, so we had a crazy long study. They all work night shifts at the same place so there's no purpose to go sooner.
We visited my boy Glen with his stanky dog Max, who went crazy over Elder McClellan and got him all mad dirty. Next our guy Benyoung, who was watching Avatar 2 on his phone on the porch, so we had to watch for a while. We were going to visit Benarcy and AP but we ran out of time, and then we had dinner with the Calio's. You always take off your shoes when you go to a Polynesian's house and we feasted on rice and beef stew and some steak stuff. They don't usually eat with us because they feast on rice and fish and they don't use forks or tables or anything.
After the dinner, a lesson fell through, so we went and talked to this sweet member for a while. She has this little toddler boy Brandon, who literally had an Edgar cut. Then we pulled up to the Stake Assembly Building for some ball. It's an unnecessarily big gym building for the Micronesians where they play sports and party. There was about 30 people that showed up for basketball, so it was crazy fun. This homie JD looks exactly like Jimi Hendrix. That's pretty much the whole island experience. Elder McClellan is the funnest homie of all time, we jammed out to Gladys Knight all day and taught the the Micronesians about Jesus. It came and went like a sweet, sweet dream :') .

So they were supposed to have a guitar festival today at the Brevard Music Center, but that place is just a hippie camp and I didn't see one guitar, bruh.
We had a really good lesson with Nora today though. She's been receiving some outside flack from her friends about us and the Book of Mormon, but she told them that they don't know us. Nora loves us coming over and is super impressed with the church and could literally talk to us about our families for hours.

We confirmed Alyssa, Leland and Roy in church today. Roy wanted me to confirm him, which was cool. This boy Guillermo, or William or something, pulled up to church and said he really liked it. He is a friend of Brother Martinez' and we gave him a Spanish Book of Mormon and he said he wants to learn more. Not much else, we hit up Brevard College and talked to some people.
